Darwin - 8pm March 29, 2008

Darwin was a proud partner of Earth Hour 2008. As the capital of the Northern Territory, Darwin is a gateway to some of Australia’s most iconic natural wonders such as Kakadu National Park and Uluru.
Climate change poses a real threat to the Territory and its unique lifestyle. The Northern Territory Government, in partnership with the Darwin and Alice Springs City Councils, are committed to raising awareness about Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is about uniting the wider community in the fight against climate change. It is a time for all Territorians to think about how they can contribute to addressing this global problem.
All non-essential lighting in government facilities were turned off. Northern Territory public servants and their families will be encouraged to participate.
The government encouraged all Territory communities to get behind Earth Hour and show their support for an environmentally sustainable future.
Local businesses were also lobbied to get on board. A number had already registered and many more expressed their interest.
Earth Hour is the first of many steps that need to be taken to ensure the preservation of the Territory’s unique natural environment.
